Don't pour that down the sink

3 June 2016

Don't pour cooking grease into drains. It blocks them when it cools and firms up. Instead, chill the grease in an empty carton or tin then put it in the regular rubbish. If you have a waste disposal unit in your sink, chicken bones, fruit rinds and coffee grounds can go down the disposer, but remember to keep plenty of cold water flowing to flush away all the ground up waste. Never use hot water to flush food scraps down the disposer as this can cause the natural fats and oils in the waste to separate and congeal inside the waste pipe...eventually leading to a blockage.
